Wu Jing, the highest-grossing male actor of all time in China, has joined the cast of the currently filming “Meg 2: The Trench” for Warner Bros. Pictures.
47-year-old Wu penned and directed the “Wolf Warrior” franchise and has starred in such films as the two-film “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” “The Wandering Earth,” and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”.
His inclusion comes as the original film’s leading actress, Li Bingbing, will not be returning. Curiously though Cai Shuya (aka Sophia Cai), who played her young daughter, is confirmed to be back.
Wu joins a cast that includes Jason Statham, Cliff Curtis and Page Kennedy. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script for the new film which Gravity Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures are producing. Ben Wheatley is directing the project which is shooting at Leavesden Studios in the UK through until May before switching to outdoor locations.
