Parties packed with stars can fall into a couple buckets according to Emma Chamberlain, YouTube savant. It can be full of wallflowers shyly sipping their drinks. Or it can be looking up and seeing Beyoncé dancing on a table next to Justin Bieber. And no one can predict what they’ll get. “You just don’t know what goes on inside these parties,” Chamberlain said as she got ready for one such party, the Vanity Fair Oscar party. “You just don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.” (Here’s exactly what went on inside the Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills Sunday night.)
Smartly, Chamberlain’s look for the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party would have worked for either an elegant, languid affair or a full dance floor. She wore a “long, black high neck, no sleeve gown. Low back, silk, black dress,” as she described her slinky Louis Vuitton gown, adding, “I hope that that painted a picture for you.”
She and her team changed the makeup in the middle of the process and the result was something more grungy than originally planned. They added several Cartier diamonds to finish the look—et voilà—an Oscars after-party look to remember.
Chamberlain copped to having nerves, but as she walked the sapphire carpet alongside the likes of Zendaya, Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Ariana DeBose, Tessa Thompson, Kim Kardashian, and Will Smith, she looked wholly the part.
