A video showing a man being punched and kicked over 30 times in Mong Kok has gone viral, with netizens slamming bystanders for not intervening.
In the clip — which is around 2.5 minutes long — two men in black can be seen hitting and hurling expletives at the victim, who is also in black, outside a Korean supermarket along Tung Choi Street.
The video is believed to be taken around 6pm on Sunday.
After about 50 seconds, the attackers wanted to leave, but the victim stopped them. The assaulters then struck his head and stomach.
The victim called on the bystanders to stop the attackers from leaving.
But throughout the attack, most bystanders can be seen just looking on or filming with their smartphones.
One did call out the assaulters, but retreated after he was told off by the attackers.
The supermarket also shut its door after about two minutes.
Around two minutes into the video, the attackers fled, but the victim was able to grab the top of one of them.
According to local media, the victim was queuing up for drinks with his family outside a shop along Tung Choi Street when the incident happened.
Reports said his four-year-old daughter accidentally bumped into the attackers, who then punched and kicked the victim.
Police said they received a report at 6:46pm of the incident on Sunday.
They said the suspects are believed to be around 30 to 40 years old, and between 160 and 170cm.
The victim, 33, suffered injuries to the forehead, neck and legs.
But he refused to be sent to hospital for treatment, police added.
They said the case has been classified as an assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Investigations are underway with no arrests made yet.
Many netizens were appalled by the lack of help given to the victim.
“Cold-blooded Hongkongers,” said one comment on YouTube.
Another called out the bystanders for only filming and not helping.
