A university student from Jakarta became a victim of a deadly hit-and-run on Sunset Road in the early hours of Saturday, after his motorcycle was reportedly knocked down by a car.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old YS, is a student at a university in Bali. The incident occurred near the Benelli motorcycle showroom at around 4:45am.
Denpasar City Police’s spokesman I Ketut Sukadi said that YS was riding his scooter from the west to the east when an unidentified car moved alongside him in the same direction. That car then bumped into YS’ vehicle, knocking him down.
“The car that bumped [into YS’ motorcycle] drove away, whereas the victim fell down and suffered a serious head injury,” Sukadi said, adding that YS was found lying in a pool of his own blood and was declared dead at the scene.
Other than the head injury, YS also suffered bruises on his left arm and left leg. His body was brought to the Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar.
Denpasar City Police’s Traffic Unit says it’s still looking for the driver of the car based on witness accounts.
