Paramount+ has announced that the second season of their big-budget series adaptation of the “Halo” game franchise has begun filming. Production is reportedly taking place in Iceland, with additional filming to take place later this year in Hungary.
The show follows the 26th-century conflict between humanity and the alien faction known as the Covenant. We follow Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) leading a group of super soldiers created by Dr. Halsey (Natascha McElhone) known as the Spartans to combat the alien threat.
The show was guaranteed a second season early on, even though reception to the first season has been very mixed amongst both critics and audiences.
Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani also return. In addition, Joseph Morgan and Cristina Rodlo are joining the cast as regulars, while Fiona O’Shaughnessy and Tylan Bailey have been upgraded to regulars.
Showrunner David Wiener who will reprise his duties for the upcoming season and executive produce alongside Schreiber, McElhone, Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Kiki Wolfkill, Frank O’Connor, Bonnie Ross, Otto Bathurst and Toby Leslie.
The news comes as it has been announced that the first season will be coming to disc, more specifically to a five-disc 4K UHD box-set featuring all nine episodes of the show and hours of special behind-the-scenes features. The series arrives on digital on November 7th, and on DVD, Blu-ray and UHD on November 15th.
