Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese and author David Grann are teaming up again for an adaptation of Grann’s non-fiction book “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder” at Apple Original Films.
The project marks a reunion of the trio with Apple after they all worked together on Scorsese’s upcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon” film adaptation which is due out next year.
“The Wager” is set in the 1740s and begins when a patched-together boat with thirty emaciated men landed on the coast of Brazil – the survivors of a British ship chasing a Spanish vessel and had crashed onto an island near Patagonia.
Their tales of surviving the elements made them heroes, but six months later another vessel ended up on the coat of Chile with three men who said the original group were actually mutineers. The British Admiralty set a special trial to uncover the shocking truth.
This marks the fourth Grann work to be adapted following 2016’s “The Lost City of Z,” 2018’s “The Old Man and the Gun” and the still in post-production “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
