TVB music competition Stars Academy 2 <聲夢傳奇2> officially wrapped up on October 2, with 16-year-old Jasmine Yam (任暟晴) emerging as the top winner. The other winners were 25-year-old Janees Wong (黃洛妍) and 14-year-old Sabrina Chiu (趙紫諾), who were awarded first and second runner-up respectively.
Held at Shaw Brothers Studio, the finale saw young and talented stars showcasing powerful vocals and impressive performances. Girl group XiX came in fourth and 21-year-old Pamela Chiu (趙小婷) won fifth place.
Eliminated contestants, Sean Wen (文佐匡) and Angel Lau (劉詠彤), were also congratulated for their efforts with the Instructor Recommended Improvement Award.
Top prize is calculated by the score of 25 lights from professional judges on top of audience votes. It was visibly a tight battle with close scores in the first round as both XiX and Sabrina received 22 green lights. Hot favorite Jasmine challenged Jacky Cheung’s (張學友) I Waited Until The Flower Withered <我等到花兒也謝了> and scored 21 lights while Janees sung A-mei’s (張惠妹) Listen to the Sea <聽海> and earned 20 lights.
Despite being in the lead, XiX and Sabrina got overturned by Jasmine and Janees who had higher audience votes. Passing through to the second round, Jasmine covered Sandy Lam’s (林憶蓮) Crazy <瘋了> while Janees performed A-Mei’s Bad Boy. However, the latter made some mistakes and ultimately lost against Jasmine’s performance.
With a combination of 21 green lights and audience votes, Jasmine successfully became the champion. “I’m so thrilled! Thanks to all the directors, instructors, contestants, and judges for their constant support and feedback,” Jasmine enthused.
In addition to winning a cash prize of 100,000 Chinese yuan, Jasmine will also work with Hanjin Tan (陳奐仁) and Eric Kwok (郭偉亮) to release new songs together.
Season one’s winner Gigi Yim (炎明熹) attended the finale to perform and present the winning prize. Expressing that time certainly flies, she had especially cheered for XiX during this year’s competition because one of the members is her junior.
