Life partners and cohosts! Before Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell joined forces on The Real Love Boat, their own romantic saga began in 2004.
“We met at a Maxim Hot 100 party in Las Vegas. True story,” Romijn revealed while guest-hosting The Wendy Williams Show in February 2019. “It was a pool party in Las Vegas.”
O’Connell added more context, saying, “Just to give a little more details, Rebecca was in the VIP section of the party, and I was not. I saw you in the VIP section and you were newly single, and I was like, ‘I got to get some of that, right there.’ It was a pool party, so I took my shirt off. I did some pushups right there and got some oil. I was super flexing. I had met my wife once before that at the time. But through the rope I was like, ‘Hey, Rebecca!’”
During a May 2022 appearance on The Talk, the X-Men actress opened up about meeting the Kangaroo Jack actor while she was in the process of divorcing John Stamos.
“Going through a divorce is awful,” she explained. “It’s terrible. I was with him for 10 years. Divorce feels like a failure, and there were a lot of things that I had to let go of that were very sad.”
Despite meeting at a difficult time in Romijn’s life, the Punisher actress and O’Connell moved quickly in their relationship.
“We had a couple dates in Las Vegas and then I flew home, and I needed a ride home from the airport and I called Jerry and he drove me home and basically never left,” the Ugly Betty alum said on The Talk.
The duo got engaged in September 2005 and exchanged vows in July 2007. They welcomed twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie, in December 2008. The Stand By Me actor has made jokes over the years about his kids driving him crazy. In November 2019, he exclusively told Us Weekly he and his wife were “afraid” to split because of what would happen with their daughters.
“One of us might end up with our kids,” the New York native joked at the time. “We stay together and not for the kids, so not one of us has to deal with them. We would have a rare anti-custody battle.”
Dad jokes aside, O’Connell doesn’t miss an opportunity to tell Romijn how much she means to him. In July 2022, he shared a sweet tribute to the Femme Fatale actress via Instagram, in honor of their 15th wedding anniversary.
“This one puts up with my mommy issues, cheapness and is infinitely out of my league. INFINITELY. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Love ya babe,” he captioned a selfie of him and his other half swimming.

The two actors met in 2004 while Romijn was still finalizing her divorce from Stamos.
The duo exchanged vows at their shared home in Calabasas, California.
The Real Love Boat cohosts welcomed twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie. When Romijn made a guest appearance on The Talk in May 2022, O’Connell asked his wife what she loved most about being a mother to their daughters.
“Snuggling with them, getting hugs from them, getting to be a part of watching them become these incredibly complete people, getting to curate this world for them, introducing them to the music we want to introduce them to, introducing them to the movies, and books. It’s an honor to raise them. They make me so proud,” the Star Trek: Discovery alum replied.
The couple renewed their vows on the auspicious date of November 11, 2011 — 11/11/11.
Romijn shared a snap of her, O’Connell and their daughters wearing matching snowmen pajamas and snuggling with their three dogs and two cats.
“Happy Holidays from all nine of us!!” she captioned the Twitter post.
The Jerry Maguire actor revealed that his daughters were aware of their mother’s previous marriage to Stamos.
“Full House is on a continual loop,” O’Connell explained during an April appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “Because they expressed, like, real feelings for the character of Uncle Jesse, I said, ‘You know girls, I gotta tell you something. This is gonna be crazy.’”
The television presenter then joked, “My kids really want to know why Mom isn’t still with him. [They say], ‘That was a mistake, Mom.’”
The family of four ended the year with a tropical getaway. “All aboard the night train,” Romijn captioned a December Instagram photo of her husband on a paddle board with Dolly and Charlie.
When asked about the secret to his long-lasting marriage, O’Connell had a few jokes up his sleeve.
“I’m as shocked as you, I’m more shocked than anybody. What is our secret? Have twins, and then you can’t get divorced because neither one of you wants the twins by yourself, so, you have to stay together,” the Sliders alum told Hollywood Life at an October benefit event for Much Love Animal Rescue.
He continued: “No, you know what? Lot of animals, we have a lot of animals in our house, and that helps too.”
The Crossing Jordan actor admitted he’d had some fears about he and Romijn’s relationship at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“I have to say — I’m going to get in trouble for this — when quarantine [began] … I was like, ‘I’m not sure how, not only is our family going to make it, but can my marriage handle this?’” he exclusively told Us in July. “And dare I say it’s been kind of fun. We might just make it.”
O’Connell joked about his wife’s ex-husband moving into their neighborhood during an October appearance on WWHL.
“I have not [seen him yet], but I make sure that my hair is perfect every day just in case I do. I am on the lookout. It would be super friendly if we did [see each other],” he said.
The married couple teamed up to cohost the CBS reality romance series The Real Love Boat.
While promoting the show in an October conversation with E! News, Romijn revealed that her husband struggled with getting too emotionally invested in the contestants.
“Jerry kept reacting. Every time somebody would get eliminated, he’d go, ‘Nooo!’ He’d have this big reaction. It was explained to us that we’re supposed to remain neutral. That was a real challenge for both of us, but especially Jerry,” she said.
O’Connell joked that he had a very brief window to impress his future wife when they met for the first time. “The only reason I am with Rebecca Romijn is because when I met Rebecca when I was 30, literally, I was like Eminem in 8 Mile,” he exclusively told Us, adding that he did a “song and dance” to impress her. “I had one shot. That was it.”
Romijn, for her part, added: “Jerry was utterly charming, as you can imagine. And hilarious, and of course I fell for that immediately.”
