MASJID TANAH: Perikatan Nasional Tanjung Bidara candidate Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has arrived to cast her ballot here at SK Ramuan China Besar in the 15th Melaka state election on Saturday (Nov 20).
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department arrived at 7.53am the polling centre, donning a black and magenta baju kurung, alone.
When met by reporters, Mas Ermieyati said that she had visited her father’s graveyard before casting her vote here.
“My late father Samsudin Md Ali has been my inspiration since I was small.
“So I took some time to ‘meet’ him first,” she said.
She also thanked all the party machinery for helping her campaign.
She is in a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Pakatan Harapan’s Zainal Hassan.
She said being selected as the chief minister candidate never crossed her mind.
“When it all started, my thought is just to contribute one seat to Perikatan. That’s all,” she said.
The former Puteri Umno chief left party in 2018 and joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) several months after the 14th General Election.
She won the Masjid Tanah parliamentary seat back in 2018 with an 8,159-vote majority against Datuk Sabirin Ja’afar from PKR and Nasir Othman from PAS.
