The Ottawa Police Service said its arson unit is investigating a fire at a rowhouse on McCarthy Road that firefighters quickly knocked down Friday morning.
No injuries were reported, police said, although 911 callers had initially reported that children were trapped inside.
Firefighters called to the home between Plante Drive and Paul Anka Drive at 7:05 a.m. did multiple searches that found no one inside, Ottawa Fire Services said.
The fire was declared under control at 7:29 a.m. after crews confirmed that there was no fire spread.
Police said officers were first called to the scene to help with traffic control while firefighters tackled the blaze.
“The incident is being investigated by the arson unit and no further details are available at this time,” police said.
