The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma continued spewing lava and clouds of hot ash on Wednesday, September 29, more than one week after the volcano’s initial eruption. Video posted on Twitter by Spain’s Military Emergency Unit (UME) shows crews taking data measurements and studying material near the site of the eruption. As molten lava reached the sea late on September 28, Spain’s Guardia Civil warned people within 3.5 km of the entry point to stay in their homes “given the possibility of harmful gas”.
