The January transfer window is well underway and for Arsenal it could be a very good time to strengthen.
Mikel Arteta’s side have probably exceeded expectations so far this term and find themselves in fourth position in the Premier League, a spot that few would have expected them to hold at this stage of the campaign.
If they’re to maintain that top four push they may need to strengthen their squad.
Several players already look like they’re heading for the exit door this month and that could pave the way for one or two high-profile additions at the Emirates Stadium.
talkSPORT.com brings you all the latest transfer news and gossip from the red half of North London.
Arthur Melo
Arsenal are hopeful of completing the loan signing of Arthur Melo from Juventus, talkSPORT understands.
Internal talks began at the Emirates last week regarding bringing the Brazilian to the club, and it is now understood that discussions are continuing to progress.
The 25-year-old has been identified as a suitable solution to Arsenal’s midfield woes.
Arthur signed for the Old Lady from Barcelona back in June 2020 but he has only featured for his side 29 times.
Dusan Vlahovic
Vlahovic is hoping to assess his options in the summer, according to Sky Sports News.
The Fiorentina striker has been heavily linked with a number of clubs, most notably Arsenal who are determined to try and do a deal this month.
While the Italian side are open to doing a deal this month for the right price, it seems that the 21-year-old will be happy to bide his time.
Jack Wilshere
Arsenal are facing fresh calls to bring one of the club’s most-loved sons back to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window.
Jack Wilshere has been tipped to make a stunning Gunners return to help solve Mikel Arteta’s squad crisis, which has led to the postponement of Sunday’s north London derby.
Speaking on Drivetime, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent said: “Bring Jack back! Bring Jack back!
“Of course, he’s one of our friends, he’s close to the station.
“But you’re talking about a guy who is in the building, he works for Arsenal Football Club.
“Arteta would see him every single day and he is light in that midfield area – give him a short-term contract!
“Let him go out and play, it’s not a daft idea. He knows the club inside out, that’s his club!”
Renato Sanches
Arsenal are providing stern competition for Renato Sanchez, according to reports from The Mirror.
The Lille midfielder has been told that he’ll be allowed to leave the French side this month if a suitable offer is made for the 24-year-old.
However they’re not the only club interested with Barcelona said to be leading the chase for the Portugal international as they continue their rebuild for the future.
Tariq Lamptey
Brighton boss Graham Potter has played down the prospect of Tariq Lamptey leaving the club during the January transfer window.
Arsenal and Tottenham are both said to be keen on a move for the player who has excelled since leaving Chelsea’s academy set-up for a new challenge on the south coast.
Speaking to the press, Potter said: “I’d expect all our players to be with us [come the end of January].
“There is a lot of speculation out there but nothing to report. Speculation means we are doing something well, as a team and a club.
“There has been no bids so far.”
Bruno Guimaraes
The Gunners are among the clubs said to be interested in Bruno Guimares, according to reports in the Evening Standard.
The Lyon midfielder is attracting significant interest this month with both Newcastle United and Everton also said to be keen on the Brazil international, however fresh reports have added that Juventus are also keen on a move for the player.
Arsenal have been following the player for several years after first spotting him while with Brazil’s Athletico Paranaense.
An Olympic gold medal winner, Guimares is unlikely to move this month with Lyon preferring to sell the play in the summer.
Any move won’t come cheap, however, with the French giants demanding a fee of around £40million to let him go.
