Sha’Carri Richardson isn’t here for a recent decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. News broke that Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was allowed to compete in the Beijing Olympics after failing a drug test. According to CNN, the 15-year-old tested positive for a “banned substance” in December. Sha’Carri drew a comparison to her ban from competing in last summer’s Tokyo Olympics after she tested positive for THC.

“Can we get a solid answer on the difference of her situation and mines? My mother died and I can’t run and was also favored to place top 3,” Sha’Carri tweeted. “The only difference I see is I’m a Black young lady.”

She continued writing, “It’s all in the skin” on Twitter and Instagram. She shared articles with headlines about the CAS’s ruling. The voting board ruled Kamila can skate in the women’s skating competition as an investigation takes place.

How The Beijing Olympics Found Out

The Beijing Olympics reportedly discovered the positive result on December 8 after a Swedish lab reported it. Russian Anti-Doping Agency placed a provisional suspension on Kamila the same day, then lifted it on February 9. The International Olympic Committee, International Skating Union and World Anti-Doping Agency submitted applications for a decision review. On Monday, CAS dismissed the applications submitted on December 11 and 12 (local Beijing time.)

“Failed in December and the world just now know however my resulted was posted within a week and my name & talent was slaughtered to the people,” Sha’Carri responded to the news.

In the media release, the CAS listed several “exceptional circumstances” for their refusal to ban Kamil, including her “protected person” status given her age. She also did not test positive for the “banned substance trimetazidine” during the Olympic Games in Beijing.

“The Panel considered that preventing the Athlete from competing at the Olympic Games would cause her irreparable harm in these circumstances,” the statement said.

No Medal Ceremony

The International Olympic Committee announced that if Kamila places in the top three competitors, they won’t be holding a flower or medal ceremony.

“…it would not be appropriate to hold the medal ceremony for the figure skating team event during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as it would include an athlete who on the one hand has a positive A-sample, but whose violation of the anti-doping rules has not yet been established on the other hand,” the committee’s statement said.

Sha’Carri Admitted Fault

Within her series of posts, Sha’Carri also spoke on the substance she tested positive for last summer.

“Btw THC definitely is not a performance enhance,” she tweeted.

As previously reported, Sha’Carri took full responsibility for her failed test during an interview on the ‘Today’ show in July 2021. She spoke via video conference on live television saying, “I know what I did. I know what I’m supposed to do, (what) I’m allowed not to do and I still made that decision. Don’t judge me because I am human.”
