A live-action TV drama adaptation of Hiroshi Matsuyama (story) and Kotaro Matsushima’s (art) Chaser Game manga is set to premiere on TV Tokyo on September 9, 2022. The manga was serialized on the Famitsu.com website from December 2018 to November 2021 with a total views of three million, then compiled in seven tankobon volumes. Matuyama is is the president of CyberConnect2, a Japanese game production company which is known for its Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series.
The story is centered on Tatsuya Shindo, who has been working for the game development company Dynamic Dream and was recently promoted to the playing manager, a middle management position, in his ninth year with the company. However, what awaits the highly motivated Tatsuya is a team full of members who are very hard to deal with. He is forced to make drastic changes to a soon-to-be-released new game because the lead voice actor is suspected of having a sugar daddy, and he is plagued by the never-ending power harassment of the producer who ordered the game. Gradually troubled by the gap between his ideals and reality, Tatsuya makes a decision…
Keisuke Watanabe, best known as Woz in Kamen Rider Zi-O, is cast as the protagonist Tatsuya Shindo. This is his first leading role. He says, “This is a live-action based on an original story that would be incredibly close to the reality of a game development company. So it makes my heart jump, but because it is a realistic story, there may not be many exciting developments. However, because of being filled with reality, it is colored by a lot of unique characters. I hope you will join me in watching Tatsuya, an ordinary man who struggles and grows while being pushed around by his colleagues.”
