Fans demand that season 2 of Call of the Night be created by Liden Films ahead of the anime’s conclusion, but what are the possibilities of a second bite?
Overlord, Made in Abyss, Classroom of the Elite, and Rent-A-Girlfriend are among the returning fan favorites on the 2022 Summer anime programming schedule.
However, Liden Films’ adaptation of the Call of the Night manga has been one of the finest series of the whole season.
Ahead of the series conclusion, Liden Films has not yet publicly renewed Call of the Night for season 2; here’s everything you need to know about the anime’s renewal status.
Call of The Night Season 2 Renewal Status
As previously said, Call of the Night has yet to be formally renewed for season 2; nonetheless, all indications point to the anime series continuing into a second season.
The first sign is the availability of source material from Kotoyama’s original manga series. Per AnimeGeek, episode 13 is planned to cover volume 5, chapter 46 of the manga.
The good news for anime fans is that 13 complete Tankobon volumes have been published in Japan. This implies that there is enough source material accessible for Liden Films to begin production on season 2 immediately.
Furthermore, the anime adaptation is seen to boost the Call of the Night manga sales, enough to even position the series on Oricon’s Top 20 list for July.
Then there’s the possibility that the Call of the Night animation will be popular enough to warrant a second TV broadcast. While HiDive does not reveal official streaming stats for simulcast titles, the series has received a tremendous reaction from fans worldwide.
Call of the Night has a fantastic 7.7/10 on IMDB, 4/5 on Anime-Planet, 79% on Anilist, and 8.05/10 on MyAnimeList ahead of the season 1 finale.
With over 63,000 reviews and 340,000 members, Call of the Night is one of the highest-rated shows in the 2022 Summer schedule, which is even more impressive given that the show airs on HiDive rather than the more significant Crunchyroll site.
Potential Release Date for Season 2
Because Call of the Night season 2 has yet to be formally announced, there is no public information on a definite release date.
The anime adaptation was initially revealed in November 2021, with the series launching in July 2022 – an eight-month production cycle.
While there is excellent source material for Call of the Night season 2 to begin production immediately, there is one significant concession about a likely release date.
The team behind Call of the Night, Liden Films, is already so busy in 2023 that this anime may be pushed down the pecking order.
Next year, the company will work on Tokyo Revengers season 2, The Legendary Hero is Dead, Insomniacs After School, and Gods’ Games We Play.
Given the production timeline from season 1 and the availability of source material, as well as Liden Films’ current timetable, viewers may have to wait until October 2023 before Call of the Night returns for season 2.
Call of the Night manga by Kotoyama was first published in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2019. The series will receive an anime adaptation in July 2022.
