Watch DeVita’s Dreamy, Deadly Video for ‘Bonnie & Clyde’

The track leads the South Korean R&B artist’s sophomore English EP ‘American Gothic’

South Korean R&B artist DeVita’s dropped her sophomore English EP American Gothic earlier today, led by the single “Bonnie & Clyde.” The song is accompanied by a music video and follows the singer-songwriter’s pre-release track, “Eat Your Heart Out, Buddy Kane!,” which also serves as the introduction to the record.

Written and co-composed by DeVita, “Bonnie & Clyde” is a slow, sultry R&B number that highlights her soaring vocals. Piano and sweeping string sections add to the drama of a song that describes a dangerous relationship. While the instrumentals and DeVita’s tone are playful and dreamy, the lyrics unveil a darkness lurking beneath: “Cause I’m trying to walk away/ Baby but danger, it never felt this good before/ Boy you’ll be the death of me/ And the way that we ride is dangerous/ But you holding me down/ Right hand to the gun/ Don’t care what I’ve become.”

The music video for the track follows a similar theme. The clip opens with DeVita, dressed in a Al Capone-esque suit, sit down to watch a vaudeville-meets-jazz cabaret show. The curtains open to unveil another colorful version of DeVita herself, performing “Bonnie & Clyde” as she outlines the story of how she fell in love with the ‘Clyde’ to her ‘Bonnie.’ All seems well towards the beginning as the show unfolds, but things take a dark twist when the curtains close and the DeVita in the audience fires a machine gun at the stage with a satisfied smile on her face. As she shoots, clips of how her love interest ended up leaving her flash across the screen.

American Gothic follows DeVita’s 2020 debut EP Crème, and comprises a total of seven tracks. In addition to “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Eat Your Heart Out, Buddy Kane!,” the EP features “Cheese In The Trap” with Jay Park, “Superstar,” “Let u in,” “Pine” and the Korean version of “Bonnie & Clyde.”
