PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein bade farewell to his colleagues at the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the National Security Council, calling on them to stay strong and strengthen their resolve to serve the people.
“Continue with all the good things we have worked on and never hesitate to improve on whatever weaknesses there may be,” he said in his parting words in a video posted on his Facebook page on Monday (Aug 16).
The Sembrong MP said that to him, there is no ending in the struggle.
“I will continue to serve in whatever capacity I can.
“For me, the most important thing is what I can contribute for the good of the people and our country,” he said.
Hishammuddin’s message came after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tendered his resignation as prime minister and that of his Cabinet to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier.
Following his final meeting with the senior leaders in the ministry and the NSC, Hishammuddin said he was honoured for the opportunity to lead, which would not have been possible without the support, dedication, professionalism and perseverance of those who have helped.
“Today is the last day of my service.
“Taking on this responsibility as the senior minister and foreign minister at a time when the world is facing the Covid-19 pandemic was not an easy task. It was filled with trials and tribulations.
“Despite all the challenges, it never broke my spirit to serve and fulfil the trust and responsibilities bestowed upon me,” he added.
Hishammuddin also apologised for any shortcomings throughout his tenure.
“My fellow Malaysians, it has been an honour and a privilege to serve our beloved country and the people.
“May Allah continue to bless us all to uphold our beloved nation,” he said.
