Kent Ho, founder and general partner of early-stage venture capital fund S28 Capital, led a roundtable discussion with Hong Kong entrepreneurs. Here’s what happened
We hosted the most recent edition of our series of roundtables, The Catalyst Series, on December 5.
Taking place over a private lunch in Tatler House Hong Kong, The Catalyst Series provides Gen.T honourees with an opportunity to learn through an open, moderated discussion with their peers as well as experts from J.P. Morgan Private Bank, with whom we have co-organised the series.
This edition featured guest speaker Kent Ho, founder and general partner of early-stage venture capital fund S28 Capital, which has backed some of the world’s most successful companies, including JD.com and Zoom. Ho also sits on the board of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2018.
He was joined by entrepreneurs from the wider Gen.T community to discuss investing, innovation, leadership and the future of Hong Kong.

Attendees at the lunch included Victor Lee, founder of robotics company Rice Robotics; Lucas Cheung, managing partner of Web3-focused digital agency Gusto Collective; Jason Ngan, co-founder of POS technology company Bindo; Patrick Kwock, founder of Qi Feng Capital; Martin Zhu, co-founder of energy-saving paint company i2Cool; and JY Kwak, co-founder of music IP investment firm Contents Technologies.
“A good investor focuses on two things: people and the market,” said Ho at the lunch as he shared his investment strategy. “And it should always be people first. It’s important to understand and recognise people; that’s the single most important thing.”
Ho also shared his conviction that experience as an entrepreneur is a strength for a VC: “Having been an entrepreneur helps because the experience helps with the connection and empathy with entrepreneurs.”
