High in the Andes mountains, a glacial lake is perched 30 kilometres uphill from the town of Huaraz in Peru.
The glaciers in Peru are melting rapidly and the lake has swollen to eight times its previous size, threatening the city below with a potentially disastrous flood.
One local farmer is taking action: legal action. He’s suing a German energy company, claiming that because of its role in driving climate change, the company owes him money for flood defences.
The story is told in this week’s episode of Science Friction.
