David Leitch’s action-thriller “Bullet Train” is set to remain atop the box-office this weekend as no new wide releases are there to challenge it.
This marks the start of a two-month drought period, one in which even the major studios are only releasing a handful of smaller titles like “Beast,” “Don’t Worry Darling,” “Bros” and “3000 Years of Longing” with no real box-office juggernauts expected until “Halloween Ends” and “Black Adam” in mid-October.
Thus last week’s Brad Pitt-led top earner remained in place, even as it’s headed for a 56% drop and is on track to take $13 million over the three-day period.
“Top Gun: Maverick” is set to come in second with $6.6 million while “DC League of Super Pets,” “Nope” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” close out the top five.
A24 is going wide with their horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies”, which landed good reviews, but is still only tracking for a $3 million weekend from 1,275 venues.
Lionsgate is trying an experimental release with “Fall” in 1,548 theaters but will fare worse with a $2 million three-day haul, Universal’s IMAX re-release of “E.T.” is also tracking for a $1.14 million total for the three days, while Diane Keaton-led body swap comedy “Mack and Rita” may not break $1 million.
